Marina Fukushima, born in Tokyo, Japan, is a dancer, dance teacher and choreographer based in San Francisco. She came to the United States when she was fifteen years old to study dance under the direction of Bonnie Mathis in Minneapolis, MN. She graduated with a BFA in Dance from Butler University in Indiana and received teaching assistantship at the University of Iowa for her MFA in Dance.  After arriving in San Francisco, she performed with the various dance companies in the Bay Area like ODC, KUNST-STOFF, Epiphany Productions, Lenora Lee Dance, Tableau Stations, project agora, and Mark Foehringer Dance Project|SF, and toured across the United States and internationally in Germany, Greece, Japan and Peru. In August 2012, she choreographed in a motion picture, Brujo, directed by Glen Mack and performed as an actress and dancer.  From 2013-14, in collaboration with visual designer Olivia Ting, she created the dance film Wrinkle in the Horizon and the multimedia dance performance Room in a Pinhole. She has been an Artist in Resident at Treasure Hill Artist Village in Taipei and DSDT’s Studio 210 Summer Residency and received Grants from Theatre Bay Area CA$H and Zellerbach Family Foundation.  She is delighted to perform Clara in Mark Foehringer’s Nutcracker Sweets. This is her fourth season with MFDP | SF.
